This book is hauntingly thought provoking. One third of the way in I almost stopped reading because I was so caught up in the characters' lives it pained me to read their tragedies. I had some comfort in thinking this was supposed to be fiction. The voice in my head telling me reality is often much worse was temporary silenced. There is some relief reading how the characters come full circle (if maybe a little predictably) and there are many lessons to be learned along the way. It shows us how single decisions can affect our lives forever. That we all have our inner weaknesses that riddle us with guilt and make us do the things we do. I don't think I can read another serious novel for a while though as I still haven't clear my head of this story.
