If you are a Sherlockian, you will likely not finish this book. If you are merely a Holmes fan, you may finish it and then wish you could get those hours of your life back.
Millett's version of Holmes seems to have eaten lead-based paint as a child. Gone are the brilliance and amazing deductions that define Holmes. Indeed, Holmes exists mostly as a foil for the launch of Millett's Holmes-of-America character. "Yes, I agree," said Holmes, "I was thinking along those lines myself." - occurs far too often.
I could go on but it gives the book more attention than it deserves. However, Millett is a published author and I'm not, so there is that.
