Not my cup of tea: This is a gritty book; The lives of the characters are depressing
Graphic violence and sex--also not a problem, IF (and only if) the book is well written.
Therein lies the rub.
If you want verisimilitude in a crime mystery novel that includes the African American experience and characters you can believe and feel for, read WALTER MOSLEY.
