A policeman who has literally been not much more than a poster boy for the police department grows up a little and gets into the real work of a homicide detective. Surprises himself by being pretty good at it. This is a bit different than all the books in which a disgraced cop redeems himself. This cop has just not tried very hard before. Funny bits are all the odd nicknames every cop has.
