The year of the French was 1798, when three tall ships full of French troops sailedinto a tiny County Mayo harbor to help a band of desperate, romantic Irish men and women rise up against their English oppressors. Now for every man and woman moved by passion, and thrilled by valor, there is a great novel of that grand, sad time.

The New York Times said: Exuberant. I haven't so thoroughly enjoyed a historical novel since War and Peace.
