In this tale Taran leaves Caer Dallben to learn the truth of his inheritance. Dallben, as is often the case, has slight and obscure advice before Taran leaves on his search. Taran returns to the Marshes of Morva to consult the three witches, Orgoch, Orddu and Orwen. These three are always entertaining, to the reader, but they are little more help than Dallben and their advice is even more cryptic than his. Of course, Gurgi and Fflewddur accompany Taran on this adventure. They visit old friends and make some new friends, and enemies, solving riddles and hurtling many obstacles along their way.
