Reyes, the bearer of the demon Pain, has been released from his curse that had once forced him to kill his friend Maddox, the bearer of Violence, every night at midnight. But even though he is now free to travel wherever he pleases, he is still cursed with his need for pain. And now due to orders from Cronus, the god king, to kill four innocent women, Reyes must choose between his friend, Areon the bearer of Wrath, who is rapidly losing his mind if he does not kill the four women, and Danika Ford, who is one of the four women sentenced to die but who is the only woman who has woken up his heart, his soul, and the interest of his demon.

Danika does not know why these strange men want to kill her and her family, all she knows is that she will do everything in her power to protect them. But something about the honest and gentle way in which the warrior Reyes treats her and his efforts to protect her both from his friends and his own need for self-inflicted pain, calls to her in the most confusing way.
