This book was well written & had a lot of great pointers. Also has some good recipes. A must read for anyone trying to improve their lifestyle and incorporate a better diet & way of living that fits into everyday normal life with "normal" eating.
Be careful if you're a diabetic. I found that a mostly protein diet for the first 2 weeks was not healthy and blacked out once for lack of carbs. There are GOOD carbs out there and this diet WILL incorporate them eventually. If you're a diabetic, add a small amount of good carbs to this diet and you'll do OK.
I lost weight. My son lost over 100 pounds in a few months and qualified for the Army enlistment weight requirements for low body fat and weight. It's a lot of discipline and can be costly because of all the fresh veggies and fresh fish that they ask you to prepare. I truly didn't care for the low-fat mayo because it tasted too sweet but you can substitute with other things like mustard or spices.
This is a great recipe book. I have tried several of them and have enjoyed it. One in particular is the spinach mini quiches. They are made in muffin tins-super easy to make and a delicious, on the run breakfast. The book is full of good ideas and really fresh recipes. Great summer food.
Growing up with a mother who was a fitness instructor and becoming one myself I love to eat healthy and exercise. After having kids though, that went out the window for several years. I got fed up with the family's (and my) poor eating habits. I had gained a lot of weight (mostly in the stomach region) and felt like I became lazy. I bought this book and figured I'd give it a try. This diet is TRULY amazing! It's actually not a diet at all and I never got hungry! I learned how eat properly and better than I ever knew how as a fitness instructor. The family can eat the same foods with you too! REAL food!

This book really helped me get a handle on my weight. Few years back, I was on the Weight Watchers program. That was also a good program, but when I moved I got off the program for convenience sake and never got back on it. Needless to say I gained the weight back. I read the South Beach diet and followed it strictly for about a year. That was over 3 years ago and I have maintained a good weight ever since. This book really helped me to locate the hidden food that was not helping me with my goal. I hope it helps you with yours.

This book is well researched, easy to read, and makes good sense to me. I have a good, standard understanding of nutrition and how the human body works as a machine. Calories as fuel, if not used then they are stored. This book reiterates that principle and shows you how the KIND of calories matters, especially when trying to trim/slim and make your machine work more efficiently.
I have been adhering to the SBD principles for about 6 weeks now and have lost approx 18-20lbs. The plan and course of action works. I keep it by my bed for "reminder" reading from time to time.
Excellent diet because I don't like diets and restricting my eating. If you're over 40 or have had trouble losing weight or keeping it off I would highly recommend this book. Great recipes delicious meal ideas.
I love this book.. in fact I bought one for both of my sister also. The recipies were delicious and fun to make.. We are a pasta family and we lost weight easily following this diet.. even my husband and son enjoyed the meals..Great book for anyone who needs that extra push when it comes to dieting..
While not an avid Southbeach follower, this book has some good recipes that are healthy and low in carbs. It particularly has some great main dish salad recipes (the Dilled Shrimp Salad is a favorite) and just makes you think about cooking in a more healthy way.
I really like this book that is really about making lifestyle changes. The diet starts out low-carb, but after two weeks you can add healthy carbs and fats. A friend of mine lost a lot of weight with this diet and completely transformed her body.
These two cassette tapes are abridged, but close to the original book. Highly recommended!
A lengthy explanation of the South Beach Diet along with a lot of "real life" stories and a few recipes. The diet has worked amazingly well for my husband and sister in law. Less so for myself, frankly my own eating habits are not far off from his recommendations so weight loss is slow and minimal. But Sister in law lost 60 lbs. in about 9 months and husband 15-20 lbs. in just a month.
I lost 25 lbs in 3 months using this book and I do not have great willpower or patience to eat the specified foods in the book. I simply followed the basic rules loosely. I can only image how much more weight I could have lost and will lose when I actually strictly abide by the book. I'm a total skeptic when it comes to these "popular" diets, but you can't argue results. I highly recommend this book for everyone.
