This book should be read by everyone wondering if they'll ever belong anywhere. Manning explains with honesty and tenderness that we all belong, even when we don't believe it. By the end of the book, however, you will begin to believe it. Wonderful book that I will reread.

I enjoyed this book as much because it gave me insight into the world of Jewish-American culture as that the story was well written. It was a page-turner for me.

Another fascinating take on life as we can't possibly know it. Yet the author somehow makes it make sense. He made me think and left me with more to think about.
If you like that sort of thing, I recommend reading it. As for me, I am keeping the book because there are still imponderables for me to go back to.

When I was in grade school, I found this book on my mom's nightstand and though I didn't completely understand everything the author was writing about, I loved the beautiful way she said it.
As an adult I have rediscovered the gift of this book: how women can and should value the depth of their lives in the midst of family commitments. She inspires me toward self-care.
Highly recommend this book for all women. I'm keeping the one I ordered through PBS.

A cautionary tale about how mystics can get caught up in their own spiritual gifts and therefore need accountability. Well written.

Since I am training to be a spiritual director myself, I found this book very interesting. Though the "triggering events" were a bit hard to believe, the journey of self-discovery with another person directing that path made it an excellent read. I've just requested the next in the series.

I like to read about women who stand up to cultural oppression and this book captured the stories of 8 very brave Christian women. They didn't want to be heroines but they showed that when it matters any of us can stand up and make a difference.

I LOVED this book. The character development - from their childhood to adulthood - was believable and very touching. It spoke of how a woman, no matter her station in life, can change the course of that station for her good and the good of other women.
I have read just about every single one of Sue Monk Kidd's books, both fiction and non-fiction, but this is by far my favorite!

An interesting take on the Apostle John's last days on the earth. The fictionalized version of his reason for writing his gospel account and how Revelation came about was interesting. But the writing itself left much to be desired; a typical Christian novel - great story idea that flat-lined in character development and plot!

Read this book if you are at all interested in finding your creative right side. It will give you new understanding of how the right and left brain work.

What an interesting memoir! Beautifully written by a mother and daughter both navigating their separate but connected feminine lives while traveling to a variety of sacred feminine spaces in the world. What I enjoyed the most is how they opened to each other in the course of their personal discoveries.
Though I'm putting this back into the PBS world, it is because I feel inspired to share this same possibility of being with other women. Paying it forward.

This is a wonderful, first look at the spirituality of the desert fathers and mothers. Nouwen's style of writing is both simple and profound. I keep coming back to review particular passages that resonated.
