While I am not a fan of horror fiction in general terms, I found this book a fantastic and interesting read. The characters were engaging. The plot made sense and the fantastical twist on history made it all the more fun. I had to know how the story resolved itself and then I was very interested in the next book.

I have long been interested in the politics of the Soviet Union. Frankly, much of the reading material out there assumes that I have more knowledge than I do on the internal players in the USSR. This book is remarkable in that it presents a compelling explanation while at the same time not being bogged down in undecipherable lists of Soviet functionaries. To be clear, the argument operates at a high level and this is not dumbed-down history but instead one that is approachable for someone who does not have a graduate degree in Russian studies. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the history of the collapse of the USSR and what happened afterwards.

Morris PI was a wonderful diversion. With an African-American hero in Walter Morris, a private detective, this novel gave it all with gangsters, jazz, potential Nazi's and yes even the super-technologies once comes to expect in a well-written pulp/detective/fantastic fiction. I stayed enthralled to the end. And importantly, the author did not give away the big plan until the last few pages! Well done! I find myself wanting more adventures from Walter Morris in New York City in the immediate post-war period.

I've enjoyed everything I've read from Letts and this book is no different. She kept me guessing until the very end about "who done it," and the underlying love story was cute. I would have liked more in terms of the ending, but even that did not ruin the book.
