If you love the Stephanie Plum series from Janet Evanovich, you may be fooled into thinking that this book is just as good. It's not. While the Plum books do a great job of developing likeable characters and unlikeable villains, this book plods along like it was some kind of mandatory assignment. Character development is completely lacking. The plot plods along at a snail's pace. There's no chance of anyone objecting to sexual content, because characters are devoid of any sexuality whatsoever. My suspicion is that Janet Evanovich had nothing to do with this book, and that Steve Hamilton begrudgingly wrote it to put food on the table to subsidize another project he actually cared about, because he definitely phoned it in on this one. One giant disappointment.

I am a huge Stephanie Plum and Alexandra Barnaby fan (Janet Evanovich's other heroines), so when I found out there was a whole other series, I pounced, not realizing that this is a completely different genre. If I wanted to deal with an insecure woman constantly fretting and over analyzing I would... (Best not to finish that sentence). I have to give credit for a great surprise ending, but getting there was about more than I could take.

Janet never disappoints. Stephanie's relationship with Ranger heats up, while Morrelli get moved to the back burner. Sister Valerie's life spirals out of control. And then there's Grandma. Every time she appears, I end up laughing so hard I nearly pee myself.

When Stephanie's uncle disappears, Stephanie's family calls on her to track him down. In typical fashion, she stumbles into a web of criminal activity, and the criminals are none too happy with her. To complicate matters, she can't decide whether she wants Ranger or Morelli. Neither one is marriage material, but they both get her motor running. This book is guaranteed to keep you curious, with plenty of laughs along the way.

This book is easy reading. There are many unexpected plot twists. The main character is very likeable, and I wanted to cheer for him.
If you like Tom Clancy's genre of complex, exhaustive novels with numerous characters and intersecting story lines, this isn't like that at all.

I bought this book because I loved the author's Spellman series. This book has a completely different tone. It tells the tale of a woman on the run, and what she has to do to survive. We don't learn the full story of her past until the end of the book. This book kept me excited about what would come next.
The only disappointment was that I kept expecting the heroine and Blue to sleep together.
I found myself cheering for the main character, hoping that she would somehow be able to find peace. That makes it a very worthwhile read.

Stephanie once again bungles bail apprehensions, while being pursued by not one, but two people who want to kill her. My favorite characters are Mooner and Grandma Mazur. And where would Stephanie be without the help of her faithful friend Lula? There are plot twists and plenty of laughs, with a climax that no one saw coming.

The character telling the story changes with each chapter, making it very difficult to track the plot. I'm all for feminism: Equal rights in education, employment, housing. This goes beyond that to painting all men as pigs. Unfortunately for this book, the heroine keeps making bad decisions. The ultimate insult to the readers is the ending, which is the literary equivalent of the world exploding. Everybody loses. No satisfactory resolution to the conflict. I have been reading for over fifty years, and this is the worst book I have ever read. This is especially disheartening given how good the Spellman books were. The only explanation I can come up with is that the author suffering some trauma that has left her broken and bitter. I pray that she gets counselling to restore her to good mental health.

Stephanie Plum embarks on her most exciting adventure to date, learning more about Ranger's mysterious past in the process. She has both Ranger's nemesis and a crooked car dealer/human trafficker trying to kill her. Good thing she can count on Morrelli and Bob for support. Another home run for Janet Evanovich. If only we could get more than one book a year in the series!

Janet Evanovich always manages to have fun while spinning a plot full of twists and turns, with just the right amount of sexual tension. Having read some of the more recent Stephanie Plum books, it's interesting to see how she was more tentative and insecure in the early episodes, contrasted with the confidence of the newer ones. Character development is especially good. The men in the book aren't strictly good guys or bad guys-- they're just guys that struggle with decisions, and sometimes make bad choices. I highly recommend this book to any mystery lover, and especially to fans of Janet's work.

The author somehow manages to write in a manner that is light-hearted while being intelligent. I'm not a fan of the supernatural genre, but the author handles it in a way that is enjoyable (not dark). This is a book that is hard to put down because it's such a fun read!

This book had a number of interesting twists and turns. I gave it a 5-star rating because of the plot, even though I found the frequent drunkenness off-putting. I wanted to like the heroine, but she made it hard, since she frequently made bad choices.
