The Black Echo (Harry Bosch, Bk 1) (Audio CD) (Unabridged)
Review Date: 3/21/2015

Set in L.A. in the early 1990's - Detective Harry Bosch draws the short straw and is called out to what looks like just another junky's death. Things get personal real quick, as Harry is the one who IDs the body - a fellow 'tunnel rat' from Viet Nam. Author Michael Connelly does his usual round-abouts, casting doubt and suspicion on everyone within a stone's throw of Harry. We get a pretty good glimpse into Harry's background through flashbacks. Overall this was a good story - not TOO many twists and turns as some of Connelly's other books. Added bonus was listing to Dick Hill narrate.

Blessed are the Cheesemakers (Audio Cassette) (Unabridged)
Review Date: 7/21/2014

I enjoy reading(in this case, listening to) books based in countries other than the USA. "Blessed are the Cheesemakers" takes place primarily in Ireland - though NYC, the South Pacific, and London also factor into the story line. The story is quirky, but in a good way. I guess one could say it's a story full of late & early bloomers - all trying to get to the heart of their own "stories". I smiled and even shed a tear or two at the ending. I recommend this title, especially if a road trip in a vehicle with a cassette player is in your future.

A well done twin set audio drama. While a bit short, roughly 30 minutes each, they are rather fast paced. The acting was rather well done, a little room for improvement but the character's voices fit the chapters and enemy. If you are a fan of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, this is one you should not over look.

meh... it an okay book, there is just a TON of terminology, and the story line gets frustrating fast. Lots of names for different dragons and riders. all in all not what it is cracked up to be.

The Enemy (Jack Reacher, Bk 8) (Audio CD) (Unabridged)
Review Date: 2/28/2014
Helpful Score: 1

Though this is #8 in the Jack Reacher series, it is in fact a prequel. Taking place in the early days of 1990 the readers see Reacher in his natural setting - a Major in the Military Police. The Berlin Wall is coming down, and the professional military is nervous. "Who will be our enemy?". Change is good, but some people & institutions don't handle it well. Reacher has to find out the who & why behind a web of deaths. Written in 2004, Lee Child has the benefit of hindsight on a lot of topics that are sprinkled throughout the dialog. Over all, another good Reacher book that offers both the personal and professional background of Jack Reacher.

Kiss Me While I Sleep (Audio CD) (Unabridged)
Review Date: 8/10/2015

An enjoyable book ... good banter between characters ... does have explicit sex scenes ... some aspects of the plot were predictable, others weren't .. I would recommend this title, and am thinking I'll try more or Linda Howard's work.

This was the first book from Ted Bell that I read/listened to. I found the plot pretty plausible and intriguing scenarios. Echos from the past - namely alliances & nationalism that helped kick off WW I - have the current day world caught off guard. Seemingly uncharacteristic behaviors of so-called allies have spies and diplomats scratching their heads . Hong Kong, Oman, Africa, France, USA, & UK are sites visited throughout this story line. Though the unabridged audio book is 14 discs long, my attention was held throughout. I enjoyed this selection very much, and believe I will try others by Mr. Ted Bell. **One incorrect fact that has stuck with me (the audio version at least has it), is that it states that the Tienanmen Square protests happened in 1986 -- not 1989.**

One of Chris Roberson's better books. It spins the tale around three Scouts of the Imperial Fists. It goes into detail of the hardships they face, their practices and the consequences for their actions. If you wanted to know the experience of a Scout, take three view points and sit back for a good read.
