Don's experiences in heaven were a very small portion of the book. While I appreciate the fact that he recounted the negative attitude he had during his recovery, and the way he turned it around to be a positive experience, there was entirely too much time spent describing his injuries, rehab and description of the medical procedures. This book did not turn out to be what I had hoped it would be.

Very interesting story of the shipwreck gleaned through journal entries of the survivors. I had an ancestor on this ship, so it was of particular interest to me. Also talks about the hardships suffered by the Jamestown inhabitants and briefly touches on the relationship between the castaways story and Shakespear's "The Tempest". Good read, not too "textbooky".

I loved this book!! I know it is a work of fiction, but it made Christ come alive to me. We tend to forget that Christ was once a child who had to learn that he was the Son of God and deal with his destiny. I will note though, that I was the only one in my church group who liked it, and I was the only one in the group who hated "the Shack", so my views may be different than the norm.

This was a very interesting book. I had no idea of the struggles that Mary went through in her life before meeting Christ and becoming his follower. It was engrossing and though it is a long book, I was able to read it quickly. If you want to get an idea of what day to day life for a disciple would have been like, this is the book for you!

Not as good as the first in this series, but still a good read. If you are interested in the "missing" years of Christ's life, this is a good fictional account.

This book gave me an insight into the problems facing the people of Africa. The language made it hard to understand, though I understand that it was necessary to tell the stories as realistically as possible. A rather depressing book and some of the stories seemed incomplete.

I had hoped this book would reflect a woman's life in the mid-19th century. I was looking for a diary that spoke about dress, social life and everyday activities. Unfortunately, this book was mostly a tribute to Malvina's husband and did not really address the everyday concerns of an average woman. It is interesting how the women in the family looked up to and submitted to the male head of household in every way. Malvina went from her father's rule to her husband's at a very young age, but seemed very content to have them make her decisions for her. As a modern woman, it amazed me that someone could be so passive, but she was very happy to idolize and obey them.

This book really gives you insight into what life was like for pioneers in the early 1900's in Minnesota. Lots of interesting stories.
