Absolutely wonderful! The characters are warm and believable. They are barely getting by, but are still able to laugh, and find richness in their lives. The author's style is direct and very readable. I think he must love this Irish life of which he writes. This book also has an alternate title: The Mammy.

The prose of this book reads like an aria; it is a little mysterious and very beautiful. Unfortunately the plot doesn't hold up as well as the author's skill with words. Ok for the most of the book, but gets rushed and kind of pointless as the end.

Lots of suspense and thrills. The real pay off here is the information on the Stalin and post- Stalin years give the reader good insight on the horrifying ways that the ordinary (as well as the politically priliviged) people had to live in order to survive. A little gritty as far as plot, but great story line!

a very enjoyable read, as was each of her four books.Lots of information about Regency social classes and life in general. The author died far to young...she will be missed.

A peek into upper-class British doings. The lady who wrote this mystery is, in fact, a lady . The wife of the British ambassador to America, so she knows where of she speaks. For me, the book has too many long, involved, prose passages and not enough dialogue.

Great read! Learned a lot about the "trouble" as the civil conflict is called in Belfast. At times funny, at times, sad, but always the characters real people ...lots of depth and detail. Ending is a little weak, still a memorable book.

light, fun reading... no blood and gore here. Setting: modern day Scotland. The first book in the series was :The Sunday Philosophy Club, and the author also wrote the series that began with the book, The #1 Ladies Detective Agency.

I really liked this one. I think it was as good or even better than the first in the series. The story is still, characteristically, warm and engaging, but the story line seems a bit more involved and the real-life problems of the region are also given some notice- lightly, but at least the author does recognize that everything is not peaches and roses.

great historical mystery- this is 2nd in a series. The setting is during the 1920's in India , at the end of the British rule...the Raj. The main character is a detective who had been a military officer in the British army. "Filled with intrigue, suspense, and characters skilled in the art of deception...perfect for historical mystery fans" - Booklist

I only read this book half way through. It is very rich in historic detail, but the main character was not believable to me.
