This book is a disappointment. It was as if Cornwell had run out of intelligent, coherent conversations for Scarpetta and decided to write a book anyway. The conversations are choppy. The characters belong in a soap opera.
As others have pointed out, this book is completely misnamed. Scarpetta's "book of the dead" has absolutely nothing to do with the plot.

I don't recommend this book. The story is choppy and uneven. There are some very strange villians which add interest to the book but not enough to save the story. If it hadn't been such a short book, I wouldn't have bothered finishing it. Don't waste your time.

Excellent! Fast paced; unpredictable twist; couldn't read it fast enough! One of Preston's best books. Yes, some of the book is predictable and some of it is unbelievable (if you take the time to think about it rationally), but the story and the characters sweep you into the jungle of Central America and before long you can't put the book down.
If you like Lincoln Child's or Douglas Preston's other books, you must read this one!

Great information in this easy to understand book. It covered most of my questions and answered some questions I didn't even know I had. A good first read for those thinking of venturing into the production of "Black Gold".

The good news: There are a couple of twists that make the book worth reading. The bad news: You have to live inside the mind of an ADHD Washington reporter to get through the book. The book has entire paragraphs of ramblings that have absolutely nothing to do with the plot or characters. About 1/3 of the book is the main character sharing his thoughts about his favorite moves, presidential trivia, or what would Matt Damon do as Jason Bourne if he where in this situation, etc... Not one of Patterson's best

I loved books #1 and #2 of the Maximum Ride series and couldn't wait for this #3 book to be available. I wish I could say it was worth the wait, but it wasn't. Very little plot and few, if any, surprises. If you are a fan of 'the flock', then it's worth reading just to tie up the few loose ends left over from #2. Not one of Patterson's best.

I enjoyed the book itself, but the narration was horrible. Ellen Travolta pronounced words incorrectly, stumbled over some sentences, and sounded like she was reading from a book instead of telling me a story. You might want to actually read this book instead of listening to it.
