So there's a library like the library of Alexandria except for magic. Every decade they recruit 6 young adults who are magicians to compete for membership, with only 5 making it.

So the 6 characters they recruit have powers that control the elements (fire, earth, plants) or psychic abilities (mind control, telepathy) and one guy whose power is to see reality (don't worry, he's very useful during an attack the first night they are there).

So if it sounds like the Magicians or the X-Men it's because that's pretty much it. None of the 6 recruitments are likeable. There's only four other characters in the book so when they're attacked later on it's not to difficult to figure out who's behind it.

I thought this was kind of dull and predictable. It's becomes very obvious early on who the bad guy is. The main character isn't that exciting. The ending is very anti-climatic.

I thought the book was boring. The main characters weren't that interesting. The whole story was just kind of flat.

A Hulk stroy that deviates from the comics. A good story that does get predictable at the end

I loved the series. The characters were to the old mythologies but the way they used there abilities were very much in the manner of superheroes. Some of it got a little brainy for me but not enough to affect the story. The five main characters were awesome. Just in my opinion a great all around trilogy.

I thought this was very boring. The first hundred pages start off with kind of a neat premise, but then it just gets boring with people exploring a new planet.

Spoiler warning. Kind of boring. It's not really the club but just one of the women from the club that the book mainly follows. The "vampire" is not really that threatening, and I'm not really sure I'd consider him a vampire.

The MC catches the bad guy in the act and never really pushes that hard to get rid of him because the men folk have money tied up in investments with him, so she just really doesn't do much until her daughter is being attacked, THEN the book club dispatches him in one night while the men folk are watching football.

I really didn't like it. The plot was nonsensical. There didn't seem to be a really solid reason for the MC to suspect members of her family of being Jack the Ripper. The love interest didn't have any chemistry with her.

I waited 20 years for a sequel to Ancient Shores and I'm disappointed. The book felt very by the numbers. One of the main characters from the first book barely makes an appearance and there doesn't seem to be a reason for him to have been left out.

I read the first thirty pages and I just couldn't get into it for a very specific reason. The author doesn't use quotation marks to denote speech. It's dashes and colons and just conversation starting in odd spots. I find it very difficult to read. It feels disjointed.

I don't do review very often, but I'm a big comic book guy. I pick up a lot of the novels that come out about superheroes. I usually don't care for most of them but this one is really good. The main character is a Supergirl type as far as powers and personality goes. It's worth the read.
