Angier is a wonderful writer, and a pulitzer-prize-winning journalist. Her use of language and the ability to unexpectedly come up with a turn of phrase or a attention-getting example keeps her audience on her every word. In addition to the quality of the book itself, the reader in this audio CD version, Nike Doukas, has a voice that is very easy to listen to, and extremely appropriate to the content.
This is an outstanding book on general scientific concepts for those whose paths have generally trodden non-science pathways! Also a great book for a high schooler who wants a look at science in terms of everyday life.

Disappointing. The technical part was a bit obscure, especially for someone who isn't fairly well acquainted with early Chaos Theory terminology (c1994). My big complaint is that there was far too little a connection with the fictional part. It seems to me that defeated the purpose of using the fictional story to clarify and illustrate the technical part.

Excellent Book! Many new ideas. Great for senior high school level students who already have a somewhat broad interest in astronomy and cosmology. Although written in 2001, it includes concepts that are not well known even now in 2009.

Good plot, interesting characters, agreeable message. The only problem is that it reads like it was written by an amateur (it was his first book), showing just how important having a good editor is! I'd make a bet that "Brane" is a vanity publisher.

This is the book that initiated my current interest in 21st century physics concepts. I was initially introduced to it during an Elderhostel vacation. A very well written presentation of a very complex subject.

Not a bad plot for the first book in a series. The characters, however, are rather universally unlikeable. I had that same problem with the author's other popular series (Thomas the Unbeliever).

I did finish the book, but had to push myself. Truly disgusting characters. I couldn't bring myself to read the other three books in the series. It's hard to keep going when you really don't give a rip what happens to any of these jerks!

Cross multiple personality, extra temporal dimensions, a D&D gaming world developed by an 11-year-old, past life regression, all stirred together by a skilled "urban punk" sci-fi writer. It reads quite fast, and is a good choice for a teen who enjoys sci-fi as well as for adults.
