This is a wonderful book that teaches children to understand that every one is special and you should always get to know some one before you make a judgement about them.

A well written book that speaks of the life many blacks faced growing up in the South.Though not a true story it depicts growing up poor and black with a mentally instable mother who is at times very loving but also unbelievably cruel.I loved Tangy Mae a character with so many hopes and dreams who despite all the cruelty dealt her does what she has to do to survive.

I loved reading this story. It was filled with characters that were so warmly and clevery woven into each others lives. The story deals with relationships between several women and focuses on each individualy while weaving a story that makes you appreciate how important friendships are to our happiness and how ultimately our happiness with our own lives can only be achieved by being true to ones inner voice and how good friends can help you to achieve inner peace. I didn't want the story to end and I have wl Lambs other book.

The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship and the Redemptive Power of Music

I enjoyed this book.Homelessness is such a complicated issue however Lopez was very honest in his relationship with Nathaniel. His story helped me to better understand mental illness and the ways society can reach out should be encouraged . It is so sad to realize many of the people that are on the streets can be helped it is just a very slow process and can only be accomplished with all parties willing to try.The story left me wondering how Nathaniel is today and I wonder how his story will go forth.

After reading close to 600 pages I was disappointed in this story. Alot of what was written could have been accomplished much more succinctly. As a tdog lover I enjoyed the technical aspects but after a while it became very repetative. The ending was very abrupt and I finished feeling that I had wasted my time with this book.

I think I am amoung the minority. I didn't like the switching back and forth through time. Made it difficult for me to follow.Could not get into the characters at all.Don't usually give up on a book but I was bored with this one so I have passed it on.
