I found this to be a really helpful book. My husband and I are planning to give backpacking a try this summer, but neither of us have any experience. This book has a lot of very useful information and great tips that would take a long time to figure out on your own. After I finish reading through it, I'm sure I'll refer back to it frequently as a handy reference.

I wanted to read Sophie's Heart after someone told me it was a favorite of theirs, and I wasn't disappointed - I loved it! It is a wonderful story and is wonderfully told. I tend to pick books apart if they're not well written, but didn't find myself doing that with this one. The writing is detailed enough to make you feel you are really experiencing the story, without seeming overly drawn out. When I finished it, I loaned it to my mom, who is an avid reader, and she said she could hardly put it down. I think this one is a keeper for me, and I'm already looking forward to reading it again sometime.

I had heard about this book and was eager to read it for quite a while before it became available. Sadly, I found it a bit disappointing. Yes, the author and her husband did some amazing things and great humanitarian work, but I expected the book to have a much more spiritual focus. It lacked spiritual depth, which made it an interesting read, but not a very satisfying one.
