This is my first Robert McCammon book but I will now be reading everything he has written!! What a ride! I finished an almost 500 page book in three days because from the moment his antogonist is introduced to her last breath, you have to hang on to see what will happen next. His writing is not for people who dont like violence, there is alot and it is graphic! But it is all essential to the plot, not merely to gross out the reader. VERY good read!!! You will never see a greater mother than Laura fighting for her newborn babies life!! 5 STARS!!!

This book grabbed my attention from the opening line and didn't let up until the end. With many twists and turns, I felt like I was with both Laura and Mary in the chase from Georgia to California while hoping that throughout the mayhem and chaos the baby would survive. I also liked how the narrative switched from Laura to Mary and back again.

McCammon's a classic writer; I can't decide if he's better at horror or general fiction, but man, it's all good.

Mary Terrell is a survivor of the radical 1960's and its movements. She was a member of a fanatical group and is now living in a schizophrenic world of flashbacks and rage. She steals a baby of a wealthy journalist, beginning a terrifying cross-country trek through the underbelly of America.

This book is quite chilling, a real psychological thriller. An engrossing read!

didn't get very far into this one, it started out with an interesting concept of horror but each page is just description description and by 50 pages I got bored with it, tried skipping through it but still didn't grab my attention
