LOVE LOVE LOVE....

So this is book two of the Virgin River series. I am in total love!!!! Alot of times when I read contemp romance I get burned out because the stories all seem the same in writing style and plot lines. Robyn Carr manages to give us completely different story lines with each installment.

This book is about the "Preacher" and a young mom named Paige. Preacher is a big bald guy who is a bit scary to look at. While he looks big and mean he is really a shy pussycat underneath. Paige is running from a husband who has beaten her til she has to run or end up dead. Preacher is not a ladies man, like in SOOOO many tales. He is too shy and to quiet to be one. Through the journey he takes to help and protect Paige and her 3 yr old son Christopher he falls head over big bald head in love for the very first time in his life.

While we got to know a bit about Preacher in book 1, Virgin River, that was only a glimpse at the Man behind the bushy brows. I fell in love with this big guy and, once reading, I am pretty sure you will too!!!

Paige Lassiter and her 3-year-old son end up in Virgin River after escaping her abusive husband. John "Preacher" Middleton takes one look at the bruises on Paige's face and knows she needs help. John may be big and scary looking, but he is actually a gentle giant. He offers her a place to stay and a job at his bar.

This is the second book in the Virgin River series. Along with Paige & Preacher's romance, we get to visit with previous characters in the series. I really like the way Robyn Carr blends many storylines into her books. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

Love this entire series. Good stories, believable plots and not "cookie-cutter" characters. Like the fact you don't have to read the books in order but there are enough "up-dates" of previously introduced characters to make them alive.

This second book in the Virgin River series delivers a wonderful back to a small town where you can read about old friends and meet new ones. Robyn Carr has a real winner with this series. Meet the man behind Preacher's rough exterior..

I gave this book four stars. This series is really very good.

Preacher works as a cook in the bar of Virgin River. When a battered woman, Paige, and her young son Chris wander into the bar one day he is compelled by a need to protect her. He offers her a place to stay. Preacher quickly comes to love both Paige and Chris, and must fight to keep them safe from Paige's abusive ex-husband. In addition to their story, the book adds to Mel and Jack's story from book one, as well as Rick and Liz. The stories are all very touching without being overly sappy.

I love the characters and the town that Carr has managed to create. There's a lot of rich emotion and story here. My complaint for the series is that the author doesn't spend enough time on her main couple. I would really liked to have seen more of Paige's character developement, for example. Other then that, I highly recommend this series to contemporary romance fans.

Great contemporary story. It's not too heavy on the romance or the sex. It's a believable, well-plotted story of a small northern California town called Virgin River. I don't often read contemporary fiction, but Robin Carr is one of my go-to authors. She doesn't disappoint. Her characters are multidimensional, modern people. The heroines aren't too stupid or too over the top. The heroes are strong without being overly alpha male. What's great about her Virgin River series is that characters who have appeared in previous books don't just drop off the face of the series. They have small but compelling roles in subsequent books in the series.

Reading one of Carr's books is very relaxing just like sitting in front of the cozy fireplace on the cover of this book.

Great second book. Hero was a simple, straightfoward guy. I still can't get a clear vision of him. She described him but for me his actions and thoughts conflicted with that description. That didn't get in the way of me loving the story. 1st book (Virgin River)characters continue in this book too. I love that.

If you have never read a Carr book, note that although the main story is technically about Preacher and Paige there are also other stories going on in the book. Carr writes rather slowly and takes her time to introduce to the lives of these people in Virgin River, but not in a bad way.

I enjoyed this book but not as much as the others in the series. Maybe because so much of it was on Mel and she is my least favorite character. She has to be the worse midwife in the world but I have to say she seemed like a really good ER nurse. Her interaction with her new husband Jack was somewhat comical. I loved the scenes where all of Jack's brother-in-laws "school" him on pregnant women and births.

I liked Paige even though she was so weepy. Her character did fit Preacher quite well. I wished Carr showcased her more in the later series because she is quite an interesting character. Definitely a born nuturer. So when I think of a midwife character who wants to help everyone, I actually think of her not Mel (even though those are the words Carr uses to describe Mel). I liked how patient and understanding Preacher was. Great point of view on addiction as well as abusive families. Very sweet story with a satisfying ending.

I haven't read Liz and Rick's story yet which I guess picks up after Rick returns from the Marines injured. Here they are teenagers dealing with pregnancy. I cried so hard through this part of the book. It was so sad and touching. Totally broke my heart.

Carr did a nice job introducing Mike (retired cop / Marine trying to put his life back together after being shot and severely injured) and Brie (Jack's sister dealing with an awful divorce and losing a high profile rape case). There are some common themes and similarities between some of Carr's characters but somehow they are just different enough that you don't feel like you are reading about the same people with a different name.

Nice, easy read.

This is a great series. I have read reviews that don't like the series because they have some bad things happen that "shouldn't" be in romance novels. I don't view these books as strictly romance novels, I think they are "life story" novels. I loved Preacher from the first novel and really like this story about him, Paige and her young son Chris. Paige had been in a terribly abusive marriage and is running for her life.

Preacher (John) offers sanctuary to Paige and Chris and helps Paige work through her fear and anger. As Paige becomes less afraid she also starts to fall in love with Preacher. Intertwined with this story is more about Mel and Jack, Rick and his very young girlfriend, Mike (Jack's buddy from the Marines) getting shot and more...

Great read, fantastic people and I love the book!

Just as good as the first one in the series! In "Virgin River", we meet Mel Monroe and the residents of Virgin River, California. This second book maily focuses on another Virgin River resident, John "Preacher" Middleton and his romance with Paige Lassiter. Robyn Carr does such a great job of characterization and storytelling. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Every one of Robyn Carr's 'Virgin River' books has been a delight. This one wasn't my favorite but it was a sweetly satisfying love story. Preacher is a most admirable man, strong, devoted, self-sacrificing and protective without ever crossing the line and becoming high-handed and autocratic. The situation in this book demands all those qualities before the problems besetting his relationship are resolved. In the end, though, the threat is eradicated and he winds up with not only a loving wife but an entire adoring family.

This is Preacher and Paiges story. It is a very quick read. Paiges is running from an abusive husband who has threatened to kill her. She happens into Preacher and Jacks bar. While she hides with her 3 yr old son and recovers from a serious beating, Preacher who is a very large, very shy man falls hopelessly in love with her.

I love this series. Each book has new main characters but I really love to see the continuation of stories from previous books. I can't get enough of Jack and Mel who ancor the town and the books, not to mention the cameos from the Grace Valley crew. I love how each of her books have the main romance but she gives lots of supporting characters and relationships significant time. It's like watching a movie with multiple stories going on. I hope she never stops writing the virgin river books!

Definetly read them in order!!!

I loved this one better than the 1st book. This one is about Preacher and Paige, but Jack and Mel still play a big part of it, as well as introducing the characters for book 3.

This is a very enjoyable book and series. I recommend reading them in sequence just because it makes the characters so much more interesting. The storyline is interesting and you want to grab the next book in line as soon as you finish the one you have.

Enjoy this series. If possible, start with the first one. I'm on the 6th one, and they're starting to all feel about the same - I may not read any more of them. However, I have really liked them all so far. If you like this kind of book, this is a worthwhile series to read.

FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A YEAR A WOMAN ARRIVES IN THE SMAALL TOWN OF VIRGIN RIVER TRYING TO ESCAPE HER PAST. John "Preacher" Middleton is about to close the bar when a young woman and her three-year-old son come in out of the wet October night. A marine who has seen his share of pain, Preacher knows a crisis when he sees one--the woman is covered in bruises. He wants to protect them, and he wants to punish whoever did this to her, but he knows immediately that this inclination to protect is something much more. Paige Lassiter has stirred up emotions in this gentle giant of a man--emotions that he has never allowed himself to feel.
But when Paige's ex-jusband turns up in Virgin River, Preacher knows his own future hangs in the balance. And if there's one thing the marines' motto of Semper Fidelis--always faithful--has taught him, it's that some things are worth fighting for.
