This novel was pretty lame. I had put this on my wish list before I read the last one so when it arrived, I read it despite my notion that this series is spent. Even the other reviews on this web site mention the way it "slows down" and is "repetitive" yet they still give it good reviews. If I wanted to read a slow, repetitive book I would at least expect skillful prose or insightful commentary. The 61 hours of the title is an amateurish writing trick to try to instill some excitement for the reader. It is like Lee child watched Jack Bauer but didn't get the idea. Would I read the next one? Maybe. I sure would not buy it. I do not even think I would use a PBS credit for it. Sounds harsh, but that is my unvarnished opinion.

Started book last night and finished today. Could not stop reading this book! Excellent.
Not enough fight scenes in this one. Story was not as nail biting as others have been. I thought character of Plato was a little over the top as well. Would have like more interaction between him and Reacher.

Jack Reacher, the man with no address, no luggage, new clothes every few days, no vehicle, and apparently no direction. He manages to find trouble wherever he goes and always solves any problems he encounters. This particular book leads you to believe he may have met his end this time. Find out? Buy the next book.

Very good book. Keep you in suspense all the way through. Makes you want to hurry to get to the end but when you get there you still want more. I can hardly wait for Book #15.

What a disappointment this book was. Reacher is focused on a certain goal almost from the beginning of the book, and takes great care to stay focused on it and be able to respond when "the time comes" (as he does in all his books). Then, two thirds through the book he willingly allows himself to forget about his goal, and is unable to respond when the time arrives. No good plot reason---I guess Child just thought it was time to move the storyline along. Child forces us to accept Reacher's very un-Reacher-like behavior at a pivotal point in the story. This clumsy plot twist also makes it pretty obvious who the hidden bad guy is as well. Then you have to endure an abrupt and unsatisfying ending that is either worse than even I fear or a blatant teaser for the next book. I've read 5 or 6 Reacher stories---this one just isn't up to par.

I waited and waited for this book to become available. I absolutely love all of the Jack Reacher novels. This one was awesome. I loved the time count down. The ending blew me away. I was dumbstruck. I reread the ending several times. Sitting in shock, I finally had to close the pages. The only thing that kept me going was knowing another book was being released. But how?

I like it to a point. I found it to be very slow moving and too much info. It takes most of the book to get to the exciting part. Too long. Confusing in places. I usually love the Reacher books, but this was not my favorite. I knew who the bad guy was way before he was exposed.

Another great read with our hero doing his thing. The ending left me hanging just a bit. One thing different was Reacher didn't hook up with a woman like he normally does. The interaction with the women in the book are really interesting though.

I was very surprised while reading this book. I usually don't read books written by authors I've never read before. This book was an extremely welcome change. It was well written, the character development was on the money, and the story was very believable. I've added Lee Child to my read list.
Lee Child avoids the political diatribes of his previous books to create a spellbinding book sans personal sermons. The book begins and ends with a countdown; every few paragraphs you are reminded of how much time remains to the cataclysmic finale. You cannot help but think to yourself, "This had better be BIG" and Child doesn't disappoint; the big event truly is worthy of Jack Reacher, Child's enigmatic loner cum judge, jury and executioner.

Even though this book was more descriptive than I prefer, I really enjoy the Reacher sagas.

Typical Reacher novel. Loaded with mystery and action. Lee Child sets up interesting scenarios and inserts his character, flaws and all. Good strong read. Hard to put down once you have started it.

Excellent book, as usual. The story follows the same format as several of the other Jack Reacher books (evil genious behind the scenes, controlling his minions through threats of death, working toward an evil goal) and Reacher of course defeats him. The setting and the characters are what make it different. His descriptions of the freezing winter conditions were very effective - I felt cold just reading them. The only problem I had was the constant counting down throughout the book - 59 hours to go. Then a few pages later, 52 hours to go. Then a chapter later, 48 hours to go. And so on. I found it a little distracting.

For those who love mysteries, Lee Child's character, Jack Reacher, quickly becomes a " real" person, fascinating and unique. I recommend reading the Reacher series in chronological sequence but if you can't, the "read" is still great.
This is the second Reacher novel I've read, and the one immediately preceding my first. Lee Child has created an unrelenting, moral anti-hero that you would have little doubt can prevail in any circumstance, and then places him in impossible circumstances. Reacher is the thinking man's Mack Bolan.
Kept your interest right from the start!
Another great Reacher story. (SO much better than the last one, "Nothing to Lose", which imho was the one blight on the series). This was fast-paced and engrossing and kept me up till the wee hours because I just couldn't put it down. Shocking ending that had me shouting "What just happened??" and going back and re-reading the last 5 pages. The clock ticking down the 61 Hours increased the the suspense; kept you guessing.
This series, with it's ex-MP protagonist, is gripping. Of course Child has his formula, but he mixes it up just enough in each book to make it a page-turner. Perfect beach read.

Another fabulous Jack Reacher novel. May be my favorite of the bunch. The novel starts out with a "bang" then slows down a bit in the middle as the hours are counted off and things get a little repetitive. But the ending more than makes up for that. Wow! Happy reading - great book.
Contemporary Thriller by Lee Child, and another chapter in the Jack Reacher tales. We find Reacher on a tour bus, headed for Mount Rushmore, with a bunch of Seniors. The bus has an accident, in the middle of a storm, just outside of the town of Bolton. Bolton is on lock-down, and of course Reacher gets embroiled in the events. I enjoyed this book. Maybe Lee Child is slipping, because I was able to identify the Bad Guy, before the reveal. Love the book, but I was always cold when reading it.
OK this is a great book if you can sit and not stop reading. Reacher is one of my favorite real men and he proves it here. Talk about keep you on the edge of your seat. The discriptions of the cold west actually made me feel cold sitting in my warm and cozy chair. It will be a great read. Suspense abounds.

One of the better Reacher stories. He falls into a Northern town in the dead of winter and helps solve murder and mayhem. Seems like he dies at the end, but that can't be....
This is a series, but then again, it's not really. The stories follow an ex-Army cop/investigator that has become a drifter trying to stay under the radar. Only one person knows how to contact him in a dire emergency. There are references to people in previous books, but most times it's not cogent to the current story. I love the character and his intelligence and ingenuity in the situations he finds himself in.

This was my first Lee Child book and I was grabbed from page 1. I stayed up long past my bedtime many nights because I was so engrossed in the story. It moved along quickly and kept me guessing who the bad guy was. Very suspensful. I truly enjoyed this book and can highly recommend it. I have just ordered my next Lee Child book.
This was another page-turner in the Reacher series. In this one, Reacher is on a bus going through South Dakota in the middle of the winter. The bus is involved in an accident and Reacher is stuck in a small town with a lot of problems including a motorcycle gang selling meth and a potential murderer about to strike the town. Well, needless to say, Reacher gets involved in what turns out to be an epic climax. I don't know if Child was thinking of ending the series with this book (given the ending which leaves you wondering about whether Reacher survived) but the series continues with "Worth Dying For" - the only remaining Reacher book I haven't read. I did have a couple of quibbles with "61 Hours" - first, it seemed like Reacher was not quick enough to figure out who was doing the murders in the small town (I had this figured out about half way through the novel), and second, I didn't really like how the novel left you wondering at the end. That being said, I still liked the book and would recommend it along with all of the previous Reacher novels from Child.

I have been reading all of the Reacher novels in chronological order and I thought this was one of the slowest moving of all. Also, I didn't like the abrupt ending that left a few questions open....
But, I am in the middle of the next book and some answers are being presented.

I enjoyed this book. I was different from most other books. It was a murder mystery. It was also about a small town with a prison and a drug cartel in Mexico. Really good read.
another great Jack Reacher story
This book was a little slow to start, but ramps up and keeps you hooked to the end! I felt like the ending was a bit quick to wrap up, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Couldn't put it down.

Jack Reacher, such an interesting character. I love how this one keeps counting down but I had no idea to what until the end. This is one of the few authors that I can't guess the ending at the beginning, or the middle. Interesting plot, the cold war background is interesting. Who could play Jack Reacher in the movies?

This was written before Lee Child's "Never go back" and is an outstanding example of Child's technique. There is action from the very beginning. The ending is very unusual. The 61 hour thing is gets a little repetitious as the story goes along and has little to do with the plot of the book. Maybe the author was desperate for a book title. A must read for Jack Reacher fans.

Another hit from Lee Child. This book is a real page turner. I could not put the book down. A great read from beginning to end. This book is about Jack Reacher and another crazy situation he has found himself in. Trouble seems to follow Jack where ever he goes, but most men are no contest for him. If you haven't read any of the Jack Reacher books by Lee Child, I suggest you read some of the prior books, but you don't have to do that in order to enjoy this book. I won't give you details, but the ending blew me away.
Loved it. Jack Reacher saves the day again...a little late but still on the money.

And crucial disadvantages too, when it means facing the arctic cold without a coat. But he's equipped for the rest of his task. He doesn't want to put the world to rights. He just doesn't like people who put it to wrongs.
